Nice hike up to Sunfish pond. Made a loop with part of the AT. Hard going up , ez to moderate going down ..rocky
Strong incline but overall fairly short trail up to the pond (more like a lake). Nice way to see fall colors or get some exercise and seems like a point on the Appalachian trail above.
This is my favorite hike in the area. It’s poorly marked. It’s nearly straight up. You walk along rocks and boulders as the creek is running below them. The sounds of running water throughout the rocks beneath you is incredible. This trail makes you feel like time stopped, like you’re the only one around. It’s almost Jurassic in feel. I’ve done this hike in torrential rain, snow, brutal heat, and it never gets old. You’re rewarded with Sunfish Pond and its intimate peacefulness. I usually set up a hammock, and break out the pocket rocket for a meal and a nap… You can’t swim in Sunfish Pond. That means you’re not allowed to do it. So don’t!
Good hike, kinda steep most of the way. Caution Barberries are an invasive plant and have very sharp needles!
We took Garvey‘s spring trail across the pond using the AT trail and then down the blue trail Douglas almost 5 miles. Not as strenuous as the Tamany going up, but still straight up for a mile and a half the rocks are not as bad so it makes the trail a little more manageable beautiful waterfall at the bottom and the pond is really awesome. sit and relax at the pond.
Short but relatively steep hike to gorgeous Sunfish Pond along the Appalachian Trail. We saw deer, frogs, newts, and fish jumping. It was ~90°F and our high noon arrival made it a slight more challenging than some of the other nearby trails. Can't wait to go back earlier in the morning or at a cooler time of the year.
This is the most beautiful hike I've taken outside of a national park. Challenging but safe and well-maintained, absolutely resplendent with nature and wildlife, stunning views. 5 stars 🌟 for sure.
Good workout trail as many stated. A moderate hike 2/3 way up then gets a bit tougher near the top but eventually flattens out and leads you to "Sunfish Pond" along the "AT" Trail. Very quiet place to sit and just be with nature.
