See All ReviewsNice hike up to Sunfish pond. Made a loop with part of the AT. Hard going up , ez to moderate going down ..rocky
Strong incline but overall fairly short trail up to the pond (more like a lake). Nice way to see fall colors or get some exercise and seems like a point on the Appalachian trail above.
This is my favorite hike in the area. It’s poorly marked. It’s nearly straight up. You walk along rocks and boulders as the creek is running below them. The sounds of running water throughout the rocks beneath you is incredible. This trail makes you feel like time stopped, like you’re the only one around. It’s almost Jurassic in feel. I’ve done this hike in torrential rain, snow, brutal heat, and it never gets old. You’re rewarded with Sunfish Pond and its intimate peacefulness. I usually set up a hammock, and break out the pocket rocket for a meal and a nap… You can’t swim in Sunfish Pond. That means you’re not allowed to do it. So don’t!
